The Good Machine

Your profile.

Sign in with the email address on your membership. We send a link — there is no password to forget, and we never ask you to make one.

Not a member yet? This is the members' door. Start the conversation instead — that is how people join.

The link works once and lasts twenty minutes. We answer the same way whether or not the address belongs to a member — otherwise this form would be a way for anyone to find out who has joined.

What is waiting on your answer
How each level is doing

Not a ranking of people. Counting votes cast would reward turning up rather than thinking, and would be the first thing anyone gamed. This is what each level has answered, and what it has left waiting.

Needs near you

Longest unanswered first. A need without a name belongs to someone who wanted it found without being listed.

Offers near you
Members near you

Every member is visible to the other members, unless they have switched it off in their profile.

What you can offer

Each offer is listed separately, so you can put one skill forward without putting all of them forward.

What you need
Other members can search needs by country and category, and yours are findable by default — a need nobody can see is a need nobody meets. Your name appears beside a need only if you have turned on profile visibility; otherwise the need is found without you being listed. Any single need can be switched off, and the rest stay findable.
Who you can reach

This follows the same direction decisions travel: you raise something with the person who stewards your area, and they raise it with the level above. Firekeepers and council members are reachable whether or not they have made a profile visible — holding an office means being reachable by the people you steward.

Messages

Write to any member you can see here, and reply to anyone who writes to you. Messages stay inside The Good Machine. Nobody sees your email address; the person you write to gets an email saying a message is waiting, without the message in it.

About you

Held by the cooperative and shown to members only. Never on the public web. Your browser shrinks it before it is sent, and you can remove it whenever you like.

This has to be a direct link to an image file. Encrypted drive links (Proton Drive, iCloud) are web pages rather than images and cannot be displayed.

Let other members see this profile. On for every member. It is never on the public web either way. If you switch it off you are absent from the members list, and your needs are found without your name.
